About Us

Creative Video was founded by Kirby Whyte in 1981 as a full service video production and post production company. He focused on producing Association and Corporate meetings, as well as special events and visual presentations. Situated on the banks of the Potomac, the business grew quickly and Creative Video soon became a well-respected full service producer in the area. Other producers began using the company to supplement their own productions.

Adding large screen projection, duplication and staging, the business continued to grow and expand. In 2004, Creative Video moved five minutes from its Glebe Road location to its current facility on Spring Park Place, Herndon, Virginia. From the advent of the BETA format, to the current digital age, Creative Video has maintained a steadfast commitment to cutting edge technology and innovation. The company has come a long way from its humble beginnings, now servicing hundreds of clients annually. Despite this large number of customers, Creative Video has continued to provide the personal touch often associated with smaller businesses.

Peers in the industry have recognized Creative Video with many awards. The Telly, Cine, Aegis, Millennium, EMPixx and the International Film & Video awards and certificates hang in our office and represent the quality work that Creative Video puts into all of our productions.

Our Staff

kirbyKirby Whyte, founder of Creative Video of Washington, has been the President and Executive Producer for the company since it’s beginning in 1981.  In addition, he plays many other vital roles for the business including interviewer, director, cameraman and narrator.

Hard work, dedication and excellent service have enabled the company to grow over the years.  Through Kirby’s strong leadership, Creative Video has successfully grown from a small one-camera, two-person operation to a full service production company that does so much more than just shoot and edit projects.  Kirby has also been the company’s head projectionist as the convention business expanded.

Creative Video grew from a single three tube video projector used in the company’s beginnings to the latest digital cinema high definition projectors and screens of today.  Creative Video produces and stages conventions, meetings and special events all over the country, and produces hundreds of video projects from its facilities in Tysons Corner.  It has one of the few green screen studios in Northern Virginia, which Kirby designed to include dedicated air conditioning and a lighting grid that he also designed and installed.  In short, Kirby is a hands-on executive who is not afraid to get his hands dirty.

Our award winning staff is standing by to turn your ideas into eye-catching video that will impress your members and customers alike. Our clients have been impressed by our quality, creativity and service for over 30 years.

The staple of the production services that Creative Video has offered to its clients for over 25 years is live event production.  Whether it’s one-camera coverage of a board meeting, or a five-camera switch with projection at the Kennedy Center, CVW is there to provide our clients with top-notch, second to none production services.

Creative Video offers four different switcher packages that are sure to meet the production needs of any client.  For graphic based productions, the Screen Pro II HD switcher is the perfect solution.  This VGA based HD switcher can accept a native 1024×768 resolution, meaning none of your power point slides or other computer graphics need to be scaled.  This keeps all of the images looking as pristine on our projection screens as they do on the computer monitor in your office.  The Screen Pro can also output multiple formats at the same time, making it the perfect solution for a more complex show.  For multi-camera productions, Creative Video offers the Broadcast Pix SDI based video switcher.  This standard definition switcher features 8 SDI inputs, and comes complete with two built in Digital Data Recorders for instantaneous video playback.   The switcher also boasts its own graphics platform for live ID graphics, and a still store library for full screen graphics.  CVW’s third switcher, the Panasonic HMX100 is a more portable HDSDI based switcher.  The 8 input switcher is perfect for compact multi-camera setups.  It can be setup in a matter of minutes, ready to combine all of your sources into a seamless show.  The Panasonic MX70 is the standard definition version of the HMX100.  The SDI based switcher features all of the same effects as its big brother, just in a standard definition format.  And finally, CVW offers the Panasonic AV-HS450N 16 input HDSDI switcher.  This broadcast switcher offers clients every option imaginable for large scale productions that require all the bells and whistles of a broadcast switcher.  Whether combining 16 inputs, cutting in video rolls and lower third graphics, or doing picture-in-picture effects, this switcher will be sure to help transform your event into the eye catching production that you’ve always imagined.

In addition to switchers, Creative Video possesses a large inventory of professional cameras, capable of filling any production need.  The Hitachi z-series cameras are CCU controlled, 16×9 or 4×3 aspect ratio interchangeable, and perfect for mult-camera switches.  They run off of multi-core cabling, which provides the ability to run an SDI video signal up to 800 feet.  The Panasonic HPX500, and HVX200 are P2 series HD cameras that allow lossless HD video recording.  The Sony DSR500W is a DVCAM based camera perfect for ENG productions.

While we specialize in video production, Creative Video has also branched out to live event audio production in recent years.  Our Electro Voice and JBL sound systems can compete with any around.  We have provided audio coverage for events both large and small, ranging from 100 to 3,500 attendees.

Creative Video has continued to meet its client’s needs with the right equipment and services at the right time.  We are continually updating our equipment inventory to take advantage of the latest technology.  If you have any questions on what type of services that Creative Video can provide to help transform your next live event, please contact a representative.

Pre Production

Creative Video offers the unique service of PowerPoint Presentation design.  Our clients rely on us for corporate PowerPoint presentations because we consistently produce superior deliverables quickly and cost-effectively.  Creative Video creates professional presentations to clients of all sizes and needs.  Whether it’s for a board meeting or a marketing presentation, we cater to your every need and provide our clients with professional deliverables and service.  Whether you need one custom, high-end PowerPoint or ongoing PowerPoint design services Creative Video is the answer.

Power Point Design

Creative Video’s 3D Animation Department has recently expanded its capabilities to better serve our client’s requests for more eye-catching and visually engaging videos. In order to meet this demand, the 3D Animation Department utilizes software packages built for integration with video. Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, and Illustrator software are used for photo-retouching, graphic creation and compositing. All materials produced for video can be formatted for use on the Internet as QuickTime movies, standalone graphic art, or in collateral print pieces. Our 3D Animation Artists work with you to create a look and feel appropriate to your product or market.
Creative Video provides its clients with video ingestion capabilities, which allows us to transfer any client’s footage to a digital editing or storage system.  We start the process by digitizing the signal, compressing the digital data stream to reduce the amount of data stored and finishing by storing the data as a file on a hard drive.  Our video ingestion process allows us to store our client’s content on video servers, making them ready to be played out on demand.  Let us help you transfer hundreds of hours of tape to a compressed, digital hard drive.

In addition, Creative Video also has live event video ingestion options.  Both the Broadcast Pix SDI based switcher and the Grass Valley Turbo IDDR playback system possess two built in DDRs (Digital Data Recorders).  These built in hard drives allow video to be played back instantaneously.  What this provides is the ability to avoid any tape playback whatsoever on live events.  When the video is ingested into the Pix or Turbo before event day, Creative Video staff engineers cue, clip and verify all of the video and audio is in perfect working order.  There is no longer any hassles or worries on the day of the show!

Creative Video is always searching for different, cost effective ways to upgrade clients’ productions. Over the years, one area we have found that makes a large difference in the look and feel of a live event is show graphics. By show graphics, we mean more than simple powerpoint presentations.

Elements such as lower-third ID graphics for speakers, or motion title intro slides can take an already great production to the next level. The elements are great ways to keep an audience’s attention, and make events look modern and technologically advanced, at a minimal cost.

The Broadcast Pix, Creative Video’s SDI based switcher, boasts its own graphics platform. The Inscriber TitleMotion graphics software provides the ability to create motion lower thirds and full screen graphics. It also can create transparent graphics perfect for ID bugs.

In addition to the Broadcast Pix, all CVW switchers can be combined with computer graphics programs to create a graphic solution perfect for any show, no matter how simple or complex that may be.

For smaller events, Creative Video offers Eiki XB-40 projectors.  Outputting at 4,000 ANSI lumens, these smaller table-top projectors provide all the light output needed for a smaller meeting, while not imposing with a large loud body of many other options.  These projectors are perfect for board meetings, or any other situation in which the projector must be positioned amongst the audience.

Creative Video intends to pay all crew invoices 30 days following receipt of invoice. You are welcome to contact the office to confirm receipt but please don’t ask to be paid any sooner than one month. At rare times we experience a temporary cash-flow problem and will have to delay payment on invoices, including those from freelancers. We appreciate your patience and understanding during these tight times. Please know that we will get all past invoices paid as soon as possible. Unlike many other companies, we do not wait to be paid by our client before we pay you.
