Image China Recorded for CCTV

On February 1, Creative Video filmed “Image China: Chinese New Year Concert 2009” at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ Concert Hall. The event was led by the Qingdao Symphony Orchestra and world renowned conductor Yongyan Hu, and also featured several solo performances by various artists including Sa Chen playing the piano, and Hongyan Zhang playing the pipa. The Choral Arts Society of Washington Choir performed with the orchestra as well. To properly capture the performances, Creative Video used a five camera switch. Using Hitachi’s z3000w series cameras, Cameron Bartlett, Eric Bugash, Preston Cobbs and Sean Hovan filmed the event from various different locations, including the chorister balcony to gather overhead shots of the conductor and different artist playing their various instruments. Technical Director Matthew Eidemiller switched the event using the Broadcast Pix Slate 2100 SDI switcher. The switcher, which is used by E! entertainment and ESPN Networks, among others, has 8 SDI inputs, and includes full-production capabilities, including multi-view monitoring, 2 DDR’s, clip-stores, graphic stores, chroma-key and the Inscriber character generator. Executive Producer Kirby Whyte and Bugash gathered interviews from artists after the program as well, using the Panasonic AJ-D910W DVCPRO50 camera. The production was recorded in DVC-PRO50 format, and then converted to Digi-Beta PAL, and will be broadcast in China on CCTV. Also assisting with the production was engineer Kathy Overton, and production assistants Samantha Eidemiller and Kelly Withycombe.
