In January, Creative Video collected yet another award to add to its collection. Judges selected CVW as a winner for the prestigious Aegis video and film production award for the production of the “Challenge America- Songwriter’s Circle” event that took place June 8, 2009 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ Concert Hall. The event, a two hour long concert held to launch the Challenge America charity to benefit wounded soldiers returning home from service, featured performances from country stars Amy Grant, Vince Gill, Allison Krauss, Mike McDonald, Mac MacAnally and Darius Rucker. It was a “music in the round” concert in which each artist took turns playing selected tunes, with the help of the other performers. The production took home a score of 88 in the category of Live Event Production. Nominees must receive a minimum score of 85 to qualify as a winner. Aegis Awards judging is based on a complex formula which grades the various elements of the production (such as shooting, editing, use of music, etc.) and then a composite score is calculated based on an average of all the judges' opinions. The proprietary scoring system automatically adjusts the importance of each production element based on the category of the production. The production team was led by executive producer Kirby Whyte, and technical director Matthew Eidemiller. The award is Eidemiller’s first. Other crew members included camera operators Sean Hovan, Cameron Bartlett, Eric Bugash and Joe Brown, as well as video engineer/tape operator Kathi Overton. This marks the second time in less than a year that a Creative Video production has been selected as an Aegis Award winner. The Easter Seals Inter-Generational Center documentary video was also deemed a winner last summer.
