On November 4, 2009, Creative Video was at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception at Catholic University for the “Healing for the Nations” 2009 Veterans Day Concert held by the VA-National Medical Musical Group. The VA-National Medical Music Group orchestra performed patriotic tunes such as the 1812 Overture, Battle Hymn of the Republic, Armed Forces Medley, Grand Old Flag and Stars and stripes, among others. The concert also included a “thematic segment of integrated readings and music” written by Victor Wahby, MD. Narrators included Marueen Bunyan, Craig Duehring Bill Kurtis and others. Creative Video recorded the two hour concert with four Hitachi z3000 cameras, using Broadcast Pix’s SDI based switcher. In addition to the program record, each camera was also ISO recorded on to BETACAM SP tapes. The five tapes will be remastered and added to the multi-track audio recording, and then broadcast on television at a later date. Technical director Matthew Eidemiller, and video engineer Kathi Overton used the stellar camera work of jib camera operator Cameron Bartlett, dolly camera operator Shana Goldman, long lens camera operator Sean Hovan, and Kirby Whyte to capture the inspiring orchestra. Taking into account the Shrine’s enormous layout, Eidemiller, Goldman, Hovan and video tech Kelly Withycombe ran over 1,300 feet of CCU cabling to connect the cameras to the control location. Despite the obstacle of extremely long cable runs, the Creative Video team worked hard and made the event an enormous success.
