Another Heritage Awards "in the books"

The National Endowment of the Arts partnered with Creative Video to once again record and project the National Heritage Fellowship Concert held at Strathmore Music Center on September 24. The two and a half hour long concert featured performances by 10 of the awardees, and a tribute to the late Mike Seeger, the eleventh award winner. Among the performers there were dancers, singers, musicians, basketmakers and poets. The concert was hosted by Nick Spitzer. Creative Video combined it’s three camera switch of the concert with the award presentations made at the Capitol Visitor’s Center onto a DVD that was presented to each of the Heritage Fellows. In addition to recording the event, CVW projected its switch onto two 10.5x14 screens, using Eiki XT4 12,000 ANSI projectors. The bright projectors were needed to throw the image from over 80 feet away. Technical Director Matthew Eidemiller combined the skilled camera work of Joe Brown, Shana Goldman and Sean Hovan with video playback and slide presentation to help compliment the work of each Fellow. The switcher of choice was the SDI based Broadcast Pix, which features two build in Digital Data Recorders, allowing the video to be played back seamlessly from the switcher without any decks or tape operators. The switcher also features two separate still store banks, making it the perfect fit for an event of this type. The 2009 concert marks the eighth consecutive year that Creative Video of Washington has partnered with NEA on the National Heritage Fellowship concert.
