On Friday, October 23, 2009, the musical group Sweet Honey in the Rock celebrated its 35th anniversary at the Warner Theater. The Washington Performing Arts Society, who has been associated with the group for the past ten years, put on the concert. “The Rock” combines a variety of a cappella spiritual songs, traditional gospel hymns, rap, reggae, African chants and hip-hop and jazz improvisation dance. The unique group put on quite a show for the hundreds of fans who came to the show. The performance opened with a video featuring clips, pictures and quotes from past Sweet Honey in the Rock shows. The 35 years worth of media were compiled into a 11 minute video. Creative Video used the Eiki XT4 12,000 ANSI projector to project the image onto a 10.5x14 screen that was flown in and out of the stage. Projectionist Matthew Eidemiller used the XT4’s 12,000 ANSI lumens to project the image from over 80 feet from the screen.
