High def aerials show the face of the Earth

January 9th, 2007 (McLean, VA)-
Our own planet is the star of the program "Faces of Earth" to air on Discovery in 2007.  This is the story of Earth as told by the people that know her most intimately - geoscientists.  The program explores the many systems that have transformed Earth as it has evolved from the deep past to today defining and shaping everything on the planet and our place within them. Much of the mid-Atlantic region shows the geo-history of the Earth.  Pilot Steve Bussmann of Bussmann Aviation and aerial DP Peter Roof of Creative Video of Washington were hired to capture the images of what it looks like today.

This was the maiden voyage of Creative Video's new Panasonic HVX200 high definition camera.  Using the Panansonic HD1200A videotape recorder allowed full, 720P at 30fps material generated by the camera to be recorded on DVCproHD tape that was delivered to the client.  The camera performed very well in the gyro-stabilized bracket system that is normally used on board Bussmann's MD-500C helicopter.   Creative Video's editor Nicole Mora was on board to observe and check off the shot list.

About two hours of material was gathered and included geological features around the Chesapeake Bay and the Blue Ridge mountains.  The autumn leaves were in peak color at the time so the hours of material also show the spectacular beauty of the fall foliage.  The team was very pleased with the performance of the camera and look of the material.  This will be the choice for nearly all aerial video missions for the   near future.
